Lafayette is named after a landmark across the street, Edificio Lafayette, and a large photograph of it hangs in the dining area. The room has a glass-enclosed living room overlooking the tree-filled courtyard. Jacaranda is bright and colorful with orange and white bed coverings, red doors, and gold drapes. The large Penthouse is equally colorful, with a vivid orange bed covering, red rug, yellow chairs, and purple runners on the dresser and desk. The Treehouse, on the rooftop with its own terrace, is among the most popular rooms, although it is tiny.
Features
This is the only place I'll stay in Mexico City. Enjoy an easy afternoon and a glass of wine in one of our common areas by the fireplace. It’s also very close to the city’s main attractions, like the world-renowned National Museum of Anthropology. If you’re used to sleeping in a king-size bed (like we are), rooms with a king-size bed are few at the Red Tree House. The staff (we remember Victor and Alejandro) are super helpful with restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. You’re also served a delicious hot plate, perhaps cheese-and-chicken quesadillas one morning and a cheese-and-pepper omelet with tomato sauce another.
Hotel & Amenities Photos
It felt like coming home each evening after exploring Mexico City. Providing an inviting and friendly atmosphere for traveling guests to meet one another has become our committed tradition for a wonderful experience at The Red Tree House. To help make your stay more enjoyable, our dedicated, professional staff is available to assist you day and night. We make sure our guests feel as comfortable as possible from their first "welcome" or "welcome back". We are not a luxury hotel with grand rooms and formal service.
Cot and extra bed policies
The Living Room is a cozy place to unwind on the sofa and chairs in front of a fireplace in front of the player piano, with the hotel's resident dog, Abril, underfoot. As young children aren't allowed, the hotel appeals to mature couples and solo travelers looking for a quiet place to relax. It is set 2 km from Chapultepec Forest and offers room service. This air-conditioned bed and breakfast features 11 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. The nearest airport is Benito Juarez International, 10 km from The Red Tree House, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service.
Staying with friends
There are 17 rooms in the three-story main house and another 5 rooms in a smaller house across the street. Another couple (the husband an architecture professor from Seattle) is on their first leg of a holiday to South America. There’s also a retired gay couple, fellow Canadians who now live in the colonial Mexican city of Merida.
Property highlights
I loved all the artwork in the hotel and particularly enjoyed the happy hour, getting to know a few of the other guests. Each of the contemporary rooms are individually decorated and have names such as Lafayette, Milagritos, and Amigos. Furniture and bold artwork are modern and chic, and rooms have attractive wood or stone-tiled floors and on-trend wall colors like slate gray and mustard yellow. Rooms range in size and style, but all have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. Some rooms, like the Penthouse and Lafayette, also have full kitchens and balconies. While all rooms also have ceiling fans, none are air-conditioned.

How much does it cost to stay at The Red Tree House?
Some guests are on a budget, but others choose to stay at Mexico City’s Red Tree House for the great neighborhood and the friendly staff and atmosphere. Staff are wonderful hosts - many thanks to Alejandro and Victor for their kindness and humor. Breakfasts are delicious, beds comfortable, atmosphere is warming and cozy.

Our unique touch is in the details of each space and we are intentional with preparing an experience that will have our guests feeling like they're staying with friends. The bed-and-breakfast is in Condesa, Mexico City. The smaller house across the road is quieter and more private – it’s a good option if you don’t always want to be visible. It feels a little like we’re at a house party – with the freedom to come and go as we wish. We have more than 70 million property reviews, and they're all from real, verified guests.

Super friendly staff, really welcoming and makes you feel like home away from home. Home cooked breakfast every morning was fantastic, loved that the dishes change every morning! There’s plenty of lounge area and happy hour is such a lovely idea to meet fellow travellers. Overall, it was our favourite stay in Mexico and loved the home vibe. It is set 1.2 mi from Chapultepec Forest and offers room service. This air-conditioned bed and breakfast features 11 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. Bathrooms tend to be on the small side and aren't quite as stylish as the guest rooms, but all have tiled showers, small vanities, and toiletries. The house was full of beautiful art and the courtyard where we had the included breakfast and happy hour was gorgeous. We will be back and highly recommend the Red Tree House to all. A homey vibe and central location in La Condesa make this charming little B&B a favorite among leisure travelers, most of whom come from the United States. We meet a couple of young lawyers and art lovers from Washington, here on a long weekend getaway. In the courtyard with its orange trees and pots of flowering bird-of-paradise plants, co-owner Craig offers us generous pours of a nice chilled French Chardonnay. Cots and extra beds are not available at this property.
Use the Next and Previous buttons to navigate. This looks like a nice mix of affordable luxury and artsy chic. I haven't been to Mexico City yet but have been feeling inspired to do so after seeing more about it over the last few months. The Red Tree House kindly hosted our stay for review purposes. But that doesn’t mean they had any control over our review – we’re always free to write what we want (the good and the bad). Singles and female travelers will feel safe and welcome here.
